The Puppy uses the Dynaudio 21W-54 Woofer, in all Versions. While of very high quality, the unit is expensiive and quite an old design. Other have been catching up. Specifically, Peerless from Denmark has a Unit in it's program that is an almost direct replacement. The 8" Unit in the CSC-X Series, uses a special new cone material and a low distortion Motor (Magnet). At a price of around a quarter of the Dynaudio it is a definite Bargain.
To get this cheap, the driver uses a stamped basket. This however is of rather good design and rigidity. By applying lead-strips and bitumen pads to the basket this unit can be inproved, almost matching the Dynaudio soundwise with only a lower Powerhandling. If desired the Dynaudio woofer can be employed without further changes but the ommison of the impedance compensation in the X-Over.
